Diversity and Inclusion Council forms from strategic plan
March 2, 2012
AUSTIN, Texas – In the fall of 2011, UT Athletics unveiled its strategic plan, themed “Winning With Integrity.” The plan outlines the long-term vision for UT Athletics and is centered around creating a quality experience for student-athletes. Men’s Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds and Women’s Athletics Director Chris Plonsky approved the formation of a UT Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Council, recognizing one of the seven core values outlined in the strategic plan. Diversity – along with integrity, excellence, teamwork, creativity, accountability and loyalty – buoy the plan’s focus and intent. Jody Conradt, former UT women’s basketball coach and women’s athletics director, chairs the council. Conradt first arrived at UT in 1976. Twenty other UT Athletics staff members serve on the council, and they meet regularly identifying and discussing issues relevant to UT Athletics students and staff, as well as coordinating and advocating diversity efforts across the campus and in the Austin community. “The very make-up of intercollegiate athletics makes it one of the most diverse student environments on our campus,” Conradt said. “Our focus is to ensure that diversity and inclusion are reflected in every aspect of UT Athletics. That said, student-athletes are the focus of all our work. Helping to prepare them for the complex social and professional environments they will face post-college always will be a priority.” UT ATHLETICS DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION COUNCIL MEMBERS Kim Brackin Committee Coordinators Athletics Council Members |
