Here’s to you, Ms. Robinson
A two-time Honorable Mention All-America and four-time Big 12 champion, senior Katie Robinson has an outstanding swimming resume. But that is just the half of it for the Lawrenceburg, Ind., native. Robinson recorded a 4.0 grade-point average in the past two semesters and has a place on the First Team Academic All-Big 12 Conference. She also is the Female Student-Athlete of the Month. "It's really nice," said Robinson, referring to the Female Student-Athlete of the Month honor. She is a Kinesiology major who will graduate next fall. "I know how many excellent student-athletes there are at Texas, so I know how special it is to win this award," Robinson continued. "There are a lot of people who have accomplished a great deal here (at Texas) and I am honored to be chosen (Student-Athlete of the Month)." Robinson, the 2006 Swimming Team Academic MVP, was a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2005 and 2006. "The tutors and academic counselors helped a lot," she said. "When you are a freshman, they watch you closely to make sure you get to study hall and get your work done. "They work with everyone on time management . . . and that is most important. They show you how to get your work done and still have time for relaxation. That's important. There has to be a balance." This year, that balance affords Robinson time to be a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Robinson, who plans to go into coaching upon graduation, is having trouble believing that her time at Texas is almost through. "The time has gone by fast," she said. "But it has been a great experience in so many ways. Robinson has appreciated what swimming has given to her. "I have gotten to compete against some of the best student-athletes in the country," she began. "I have gotten to attend a great university in a neat city and I have had the opportunity to get an education at one of the best universities in the country." |
